Time for some speed-judging, bitches!
The stars (or at least the stars who aren't resting up for the Oscars) came out for the Costume Designers Guild Awards. In a room full of people whose entire careers are based on dressing others, let's see how they did.
Halle Berry in Elie Saab Spring 2011 Couture

Question for the ladies in the audience: do you all irrationally hate her? Because if we were women, hating Halle Berry would be a full-time hobby for us. It's almost ridiculous how good she looks here.
Beau Garrett in Burberry Prorsum

Awful color, too shiney, the belt's all wrong. Off you go, dear.
Matt Bomer

Everything is perfectly tailored and fitted. He looks great. But let us inject yet another controversial T Lo opinion on menswear; specifically tuxedos: we think the tuxedo-striped pant is ready to be relegated to the dustbin of fashion history. The lines have long blurred between "formal suit" and "tuxedo" anyway, and we think that old holdover from military dress uniforms is no longer needed. It always says "wedding rental" to us.
Brittany Robertson

There is a warehouse somewhere in the Los Angeles area where millions of versions of this dress reside. That's the only reason we can come up with as to why it appears so often on the red carpet. Or maybe there's only one version and everyone's passing it around as a rite of passage or something. Either way, we're sick to death of this very standard dress.
Costume Designer Janie Bryant in Jovani Couture

Stunning. Love the rich, bronzey colors.
Diane Lane

We want to like this. It starts off up top kind of free and easy with a tiny bit of a '20s feel to it, but then the hem does that and she's wearing those shoes and the whole thing just starts falling apart around her knees. It's bleh.
Incidentally, we watched Secretariat the other night and a more formulaic, by-the-numbers "triumph" movie you won't find, but her character's wardrobe was gorgeous.
Claire Danes in Lanvin Spring 2011

The hair and makeup are a little harsh and the shoes look like an afterthought but that's a great dress and we love the belt paired with it.
Ginnifer Goodwin in Roksanda Ilincic

This girl gets more tragic every time we see her. She never seems to know which hair styles and dresses work the best for her.
Kathy Griffin

It gets a little couch-y, but we like a print on the RC, it fits her well, and she's really come a long way, so we're inclined to like this. Not sure about the shoes.
Kellan Lutz

Yikes. Someone is on a mass-building routine, it seems. He's been so puffy and sloppy-looking lately. Not loving the brown hair on him, either.
Kristin Davis in Oscar de la Renta Spring 2011

What a perfect Charlotte dress. She always looks best when she dresses like her old SATC character.
Lisa Edelstein

The dress is okay, but we don't love the hem or the shoes paired with it.
Louise Roe in Manish Arora Spring 2011

We give her a ton of credit for trying, but this isn't really working for us. There are better Manish Arora dresses out there. The shoes are pretty cool though.
Matt Lauria

Cute.
Hem your pants.
Melora Hardin

Snore.
Sarah Hyland in WTB

What a cute dress. It goes a little bed-sheety on the bottom, but it's sweet and young and that's perfect for her.
