NO, honey! NO!

We're sorry. It just flew out of our mouths. In a way, it's probably good that we're not Kate Winslet's gays because when a gal gets a radically new cut and color, she's vulnerable and unsure if she made the right decision and she needs gentle hand-holding from her gays along with whispered assurances that

a) You look JUST LIKE that popular actress.
b) You'd never know that wasn't your natural color.
c) It frames your cheekbones!
d) It'll grow back; extensions get cheaper all the time.

No, we'd never be able to stick to the Handbook replies upon viewing this follicular disaster. Best for us to remain bitchy bloggers from a distance. But are we wrong here? Can we be convinced that this is the right cut and color for Kate? Not likely, but we'd love to hear someone defend this. We're honestly mystified by this. Is this some sort of attempt at edginess and youth in light of the fact that she's playing a woman with an adult daughter in HBO's remake of Mildred Pierce? Is that it? She's trying to look all modern and edgy because she'll be playing a "common frump" in period clothes for 5 nights? Is Pink's haircut from 2005 all that modern and edgy anyway?

Bottom line for us, it just doesn't suit her at all; not her looks, not her personality, and not her image. Her face looks great, but the frame looks awful.

Who cares about the clothes? The poor stylist on this shoot was probably all "Screw it. No one's going to be looking at what she's wearing."

In other Winslet news, we are VERY excited about the HBO adaptation of Mildred Pierce, which debuts next month. They went back to the original book for inspiration, freeing Kate up to do a version without Joan's ghost hanging over her. From what few stills we've seen, the art direction and costuming look to be amazing. We have a feeling we'll be blogging the hell out of this one when it debuts. In fact, we're reading the book right now.
