In or Out: Chloë Sevigny in O.C.

The United States of Chloe.

We like to pretend that the person we call "Chloe Sevigny" is actually a performance artist perpetrating a long con on the public wherein she plays a succession of characters who dress like they're on crack. It's the only thing that makes sense. Let's guess the character Chloe's playing today, kids:

Chloë Sevigny attends the GO International Designer
Collective Launch in New York City in her own design.

Meet "Sage." Sage is a lesbian exotic dancer, part-time magician, and full-time international spy. Sage likes animal prints, mullets, menswear, judo, and showing a tiny strip of her upper-thigh skin. Sage is mysterious and knowing, but hides a feral fierceness that can be unleashed at any moment (but usually when there are photographers and parking valets around). Sage likes sucking on a dozen or so lemons before leaving the house so she can have that disdainful pursed lip that she (and no one else) finds devastatingly attractive. Sage has many hidden talents (bread-making, acoustic guitar, making working class people cry), but the most interesting of these is her talent to make dresses look really shitty the second she puts them on:

See the difference? That's because here, Chloe is playing "Taffy," a dimwitted 19-year-old celebutante with rickets who stands on rooftops waiting for a crowd to form. "Taffy" wears this dress well, but that's because Taffy has no other discernible talents and can pour what consists of her brain power into making clothes look good on her. "Sage," on the other hand, is a multi-talented woman (eye surgery, dog grooming, marksmanship, perfect meringues) who can't be bothered with worrying about her clothes. To her, accessorizing means a bow tie and a pound of hair gel.

See? See how serious she is? She's got a lot on her mind and doesn't have time for your silly fashion shit.

So while we salute the multi-talented and serious Sage, we kind of wish she'd broken Taffy out for this occasion because as always, Sage looks vaguely ridiculous, which means she's OUT.

We look forward to the next character to appear on the red carpet wearing Chloe Sevigny's face.
