Michelle Obama in Peter Som

Pleading her case.

First Lady Michelle Obama, with Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden, at a meeting
with a bipartisan group of governors in the State Dining Room of the White House.

We're not sure we love the clashing prints (although they're technically not clashing). Certainly, it's a flattering look on her. The neckline and sleeves are perfect for her and for once, the high waist really works in her favor. Those differently scaled prints might actually be doing the trick here. Normally a high-waisted skirt with a blouse does not-particularly-kind things to her proportions, but she looks just right here. Love the hair; love the bangles.

People ask why we don't feature Dr. Biden here more often. Two reasons: one, she dresses competently and we can't recall her ever appearing in public looking bad, but she also dresses somewhat boring from a blog-writing perspective. It's a succession of appropriate tailored suits, like most other political wives. The second reason is that The Second Lady simply isn't in the public eye as much as the First Lady is. Still, she looks good here. They both do. Their outfits match somewhat and together, they're projecting an image of grace and competence, which we suspect was largely the point of the appearance. Well done, Number One and Number Two.
